At the start of this project I wanted to portray homeless men In a spiritual way that was ultimately transcendent. Only to discover that their suffering could not be negated and transcendence was not possible. As viewers we glimpse the heavens but only as dream; as the empty sky they stare into brings us back to material reality.
Postmodernity is defined as a life without the absolute. The ' the godless heavens' is a document of the homeless European man, as well as, a metaphoric statement of our respective moment; where spiritual beings (us) are denied purpose; as we live in an age where global capitalism poorly substitutes meaning and transcendence is denied to all.
